To determine the magnitude of these consequences, it is essential to investigate whether formal overeducation is persistent or temporary. We compare the persistence of overeducation between the less standardized academic training and the highly standardized vocational education training. Using screening theory, we formulate hypotheses that explain the persistence of overeducation. The German National Education Panel Studies provide retrospective biographical data on 4315 employees. To provide an unbiased effect of overeducation persistence, we consider the full employment career and use a dynamic random-effects model. In this model, we apply Mundlak corrections to account for unobserved characteristics between individuals. Moreover, we adjust for the initial condition, as it affects subsequent employment pathways. We use the first job after entering the labor market as the initial condition. Our results show that overeducation in Germany is persistent and not simply a temporary part of the allocation process. The self-sustaining effect of overeducation is stronger for academics than it is for vocationally educated employees." We use a recently introduced linkage approach and identify two dimensions of linkage between educational credentials and occupation (vertical and horizontal linkage). Using data from the 2014 '2018 American Community Survey, we find notable differences in the total strength of education-occupation linkage by race/ethnicity. Highly-educated Black workers experience weaker vertical and horizontal linkage than their white counterparts; this is also true for Hispanic workers, though to a lesser extent. Ethnoracial differences in vertical linkage are stronger and more consistent than those in horizontal linkage. We decompose group differences in linkage strength and find that differences in occupational distributions and the composition-invariant structural component account for a large part of the overall difference in linkage strength. Separate analyses by degree levels show that, while the linkage is generally stronger for advanced degree holders than bachelor's degree holders, ethnoracial differences remain similar between the two groups of highly-educated workers." More precisely, we estimate the association between assimilation and employment, wages, underemployment, three measures of job satisfaction, overeducation and wages. Using Australian longitudinal data, we find that assimilation is strongly associated with employment and wages as well as a number of job satisfaction measures. We then split our data and repeat the analysis for before and after the financial crisis of 2008-2009. We find important differences in the way assimilation is associated with different measures of labour market outcomes under different economic conditions. Finally, we explore mechanisms that may underlie the results." Data from the Canadian Community Health Survey (CCHS) 2.1 (2003) was used to explore associations within the context of a 1993 national immigration policy shift prioritising admission of skilled immigrants. Logistic regression analyses were performed to estimate odds ratios associating underemployment with fair/poor SRMH for the full study sample then stratified by a. immigrant status and b. length of time in Canada. Data were weighted to reflect the CCHS 2.1 sample design, adjustments for nonresponse, and post-stratification. The study sample included 57,308 labour force participants aged 18-64. Following a listwise deletion of participants with missing values for independent variables, dependent variables, and/or covariates, the resulting sample was 54,064 (94% of the eligible sample). Underemployment was positively associated with fair/poor SRMH for labour force participants. Overqualification was positively associated with fair/poor SRMH for immigrants (AOR 1.63; 95% CI 1.16-2.27), but not for Canadian-born labour force participants (AOR 1.03; 95% CI 0.90-1.20). Unemployment (AOR 3.41; 95% CI 1.79-6.48) and overqualification (AOR 1.52; 95% CI 1.04-2.21) only had significant positive associations with fair/poor SRMH for long-term immigrants. The magnitude of association of overqualification was greater for recent (AOR 2.04) than long-term immigrants and this may have practical importance. The findings suggest the need for tailored interventions to prevent underemployment and fair/poor SRMH for immigrant vs. Canadian-born labour force participants. A whole of government approach is needed to reduce the underemployment of immigrants and its mental health impact." We find that the meeting significantly increases job finding and is cost effective. However, caseworkers differ substantially in the rate at which they impose broader job search. We exploit this heterogeneity in caseworker stringency and the random assignment of unemployed workers to caseworkers within local offices to evaluate the broader search requirement. Our results show that imposing the broader search requirements reduces job finding. We argue that restricting the job search opportunities forces unemployed workers to search sub-optimally which negatively affects labor market outcomes."
