Empirical analysis of DOT, CPS, and NLSY79 data finds evidence to support this model. A large increase in the prices of cognitive and people skills - skills with which women are well endowed - and a decline in the price of motor skills account for up to 40 percent of the rising inequality and 20 percent of the narrowing gender gap." The central conclusion of our analysis is that within-job wage inequality plays a significant role in the Czech labour market, and that there were no substantive changes during the period studied. Czech women doing the same job in the same establishment earn about 10 per cent less than their male co-workers. The smallest gender wage gaps are found in establishments and groups of employees' representative of or with strong ties to the socialist past. We conclude by speculating that motherhood and women's responsibilities in the home, together with the legal system's lack of legitimacy, limit the impact of legislative changes on practices in Czech society and preserve gender wage discrimination." Our empirical analysis exploits German register data on highly attached displaced workers. We apply duration models to analyze gender differences in job search taking into account observed and unobserved worker heterogeneity and censoring. Simple survival functions show that displaced women take longer to find a new job than comparable men. Disaggregation by age groups reveals that these differences are driven by differential behavior of prime age women. There is no significant difference in job search duration among the very young and older workers. These differential outcomes remain even after we control for differences in human capital, and when time dependence and unobserved heterogeneity are incorporated into the model." The case of Greece is examined due to the fact that it is an EU country with historically large gender discrepancies in earnings and occupational segregation. Using micro-data from the Greek Labour Force Survey (LFS), the returns to academic disciplines are firstly estimated by gender. It is found that the subjects in which women are relatively over-represented (e.g. Education, Humanities) are also those with the lowest wage returns. Oaxaca-Blinder decompositions subsequently imply that gender differences in the type of degree studied can explain an additional 8.4% of the malefemale pay gap. Risk-augmented earnings functions of the Hartog-type also indicate that women seek for less risky educations that consequently command lower wage premiums in the job market." (Autorenreferat, IAB-Doku)}, Abstract= {"In the EU-27, 17% of full-time employees were lowwage earners in 2006. This category included over 23% of female full-time employees, 28% of those with a low level of education, 31% of those having a fixed-term contract and 41% of those working in hotels and restaurants. The percentage of full-time employees who were low-wage earners was between 6% (Finland) and 31% (Latvia). This publication analyses in more detail the structure of low-wage employment in Europe, based on data from the 2006 Structure of Earnings Survey (SES) - a survey which is conducted every four years. Lowwage earners among full-time employees are defined as those earning less than two-thirds of the national median wage per year. When looking at average gross earnings per hour wide variations around the average of 13.38 EUR per hour were reported in the EU. The highest hourly gross earnings were recorded by Denmark (22.38 EUR), Ireland (20.83 EUR) and the United Kingdom (19.47 EUR), while the lowest hourly wages were found in Bulgaria (1.11 EUR), Romania (1.87 EUR) and Latvia (2.64 EUR). Gender and level of education play a significant role in average hourly earnings. On average, gross hourly earnings of women in the EU were 17.6% lower than for men in 2007 (this relative difference is known as the gender pay gap). Wages of persons with tertiary education were twice as high as those with lower education."
