(Autorenreferat, IAB-Doku)}, Abstract= {"Strategic human resource management (SHRM) research has provided evidence for a positive association between HR practices and organizational performance. However, theory-building has not considered developmental dynamics across the working life and its implications for the association between HR practices and organizational outcomes. We call for an extension of current SHRM approaches and suggest adopting a life-span psychology perspective on age-related changes of cognitive capabilities, personality, and affect. Integrating the constructs of job satisfaction, organizational commitment, and work motivation establishes a conceptual framework that helps to explain the association of HR practices with performance in an age-differentiated manner. Pertinent propositions address essential facets of the framework for the age-related alignment of HR practices. We discuss directions for further research." The editors of this book address this issue by stressing the importance of theory in gerontology. While the previous edition focused on multidisciplinary approaches to aging theory, this new edition provides cross-disciplinary, integrative explanations of aging theory: The contributors of this text have reached beyond traditional disciplinary boundaries to partner with researchers in adjacent fields in studying aging and age-related phenomena. Part I: Setting the context of theories of aging; Part II: Theorizing aging across disciplines; Part III: Biological theories of aging; Part IV: Psychological theories of aging; Part V: Social science perspectives on theories of aging; Part VI: Society, public policy, and theories of aging; Part VII: Translating theories of aging; and Part VIII: The future of theories of aging." Using a life-course approach, 'Valuing older people' argues that the complexity and potential creativity of later life demand a humanistic vision of older people and ageing. It acknowledges the diversity of experiences of older age and presents a range of contexts and methodologies through which they can be understood. Ageing is a process of creating meaning carried out by older people, and is significant for those around them. This book, therefore, considers the impact of social norms and political and economic structures on older people's capacities to age in creative ways. What real obstacles are there to older people's construction of meaningful lives? What is being achieved when they feel they are ageing well?"
