%X "A new BLS survey provides data on occupations and wages in green establishments; a wage gap between green and nongreen establishments is traced to the occupational mix. After giving some background on the Green Goods and Services Occupational survey methodology, this article presents a number of high-level findings on occupational employment and wages in establishments providing green goods or services. %X "In sozial- und kulturwissenschaftlichen Studien der 1990er Jahren fanden unterschiedliche Wahrnehmungen von Natur ihren Ausdruck in den Kategorien 'Nation' und 'Kultur'. Auch in wissenschaftlichen und öffentlichen Diskursen zum Thema Walfang werden häufig unterschiedliche Einstellungen in kulturellen oder nationalen Kategorien ausgedrückt. Daraus resultieren Essentialisierungen, die sich begrifflich als Antiwalfangnationen vs. Walfangnationen oder fleischbasierte vs. fischbasierte Ernährungsweise fassen lassen. Der Konflikt um die Fortführung des internationalen Walfanges generiert auf diese Weise dichotomische Esskulturen. Doch unklar bleibt, welche Bedeutung eigentlich Wale für Menschen haben. Im Rahmen eines Feldforschungsprojektes wurden Menschen in Deutschland, Grönland und Japan die Abschlussfrage 'Was bedeutet ein Wal für Sie?' gestellt. Es zeigt sich, dass die Antworten die dominante Perzeption von Walen, wie sie sich für euro-amerikanische Gesellschaften rekonstruieren lässt, infrage stellen und die Unterschiedlichkeit der Narrationen sich nicht entlang von kulturellen oder nationalen Grenzen begründen lässt." %X "In the 1990s social and cultural studies explored different perceptions of nature expressed within the categories of 'nation' and 'culture'. Similar results are seen in international studies on whaling. In academic and public discourses on the subject of whaling different attitudes are expressed within cultural or national groupings. This has led to essentialisms such as anti-whaling nations vs. whaling nations or meat-based culture vs. marine food culture. In this way the international conflict over the continuation of whaling after the moratorium from 1986 generates dichotomous food cultures. A dominant perception of whales can be reconstructed for Euro-American societies but it remains unclear what significance whales actually have on individuals. As part of a field research project, people in Germany, Japan, and Greenland were asked: 'What does a whale mean to you?' According to the responses the dominant perception of whales is called into question. The diversity of narratives cannot be explained along cultural or national boundaries." %X "Scholars have long argued that creativity drives economic prosperity. Recently, much of this debate has revolved around the creative class. Most of this research, however, has been done during times of strong economic growth. What is the economic effect of the creative class after the financial crisis? Looking at regional unemployment variation in 2007-2011 against baseline unemployment in 2005, we study if specific subgroups within the creative class have different relationships with regional unemployment. Throughout the entire timeframe all of the creative subgroups are associated with lower unemployment. We conclude that creativity matters but the influence of each subsector is dependent on region size." (Author's abstract, IAB-Doku) ((en))
