First, through a multivariate comparative analysis of the secondary data obtained from the public statistics, a Hellwig's synthetic indicator is created to rank the level of socioeconomic development of the EU 28 countries. Then, using the total number of certificates issued in 2012 and the increase from 2011, this study has found a correlation between the level of national socioeconomic development and the adoption of ISO 14001 system in their businesses. Although there was no relationship between the number of ISO 14001 certificates in 2012 and the level of socioeconomic development at the national level, a weak negative correlation was observed between the increase of certification from 2011 to 2012 and the level of national socioeconomic development. The results suggest a higher interest in ISO 14001 adoption by the firms from the less developed countries than those from the more developed states." Drawing on ethics of care and theories of societal post-materialism, we develop a set of hypotheses predicting patterns of value creation across gender and countries. Using a sample of 15,141 entrepreneurs in 48 countries from the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor, we find that gender and cultural values of post-materialism significantly impact the kinds of value creation emphasized by entrepreneurs. Specifically, women entrepreneurs are more likely than men to emphasize social value goals over economic value creation goals. Individuals who start ventures in strong post-materialist societies are more likely to have social and environmental value creation goals and less likely to have economic value creation goals. Furthermore, as levels of post-materialism rise among societies, the relationship between value creation goals and gender changes, intensifying both the negative effect of being female on economic value goals and the positive effect on social value goals. In other words, post-materialism further widens the gender gap in value creation goals." We focused on quantitative pairwise comparison of criteria, taking basic input parameters from a model of complex risk assessment used in selected forestry activities. The model is based on quantification of risk factors (noise, temperature, vibrations and mental stress), which have the most important effect on health and well-being of forest machines operators. Operators are simultaneously influenced by aforementioned risk factors and mutual interaction of all these risk factors was assessed. Proceeding from taken measurements and following experimental assessment it is possible to state that the result of complex assessment by multiple-criteria method influences significantly the determination of weight coefficient of importance. Higher value of weight coefficient means that certain risk factors have a bigger influence on the result and vice versa, risk factors with a lower value of weight coefficient affect the result less. For this reason it is necessary to approach conscientiously and responsibly the assessment of individual pairs of risk factors in Saaty's matrix." We show how esteem-enhancing strategies that draw on the symbolic can be both supported and undermined by the physicality of dirt, and how relations of power are rooted in subordinating material conditions. Through employing Hardy and Thomas's taxonomy of objects, practice, bodies and space, we develop a fuller understanding of how the symbolic and material are fundamentally entwined within dirty work, and suggest that a neglect of the latter might foster a false optimism regarding worker experiences." (Autorenreferat, IAB-Doku)}, Abstract= {"Due to Germany's climate protection commitments, the country's exit from lignite exploitation and combustion seems unavoidable. Already in the short term, capacity will have to be cut. In Eastern Germany alone more than 10,000 jobs are at stake, after the sector has already lost thousands of jobs over the past twenty years. On the basis of high-quality administrative data, this study examines the consequences for the workers affected by job cuts in the Eastern German lignite sector between 1998 and 2010. Elder and poorly educated lignite workers have had trouble finding a new job elsewhere. If the job loss is followed by a period of unemployment, the costs linked to a change are particularly high. These experiences from the past suggest that the structural change about to happen in Eastern Germany has to be planned ahead early on and carefully, in order to give workers the chance to requalify and/or look for other job opportunities."
