Under the Affordable Care Act, many states expanded Medicaid eligibility to cover adults with incomes up to 138 percent of the federal poverty level. I exploit this eligibility cutoff in a difference-in-discontinuities design and find that the probability of part-time employment increases relative to full-time employment. These employment transitions are strongest among females, low-educated workers, and individuals aged 45-64. An exploration of potential mechanisms shows that employment transitions are due to personal (voluntary) reasons as opposed to economic (involuntary) reasons, suggesting that increases in part-time employment are through the labor supply channel." Our empirical strategy accounts for the endogenous sorting of individuals into occupations by including individual fixed effects. We address the potential endogeneity of occupational change over time by focusing only on individuals who remain in the same occupation (ISCO 3-digit), exploiting the variation in working conditions within each occupation over time. This variation, determined primarily by general macroeconomic conditions, is likely to be exogenous from the individual point of view. Our results indicate that, for female workers, improvements in working conditions such as skills and discretion, working time quality, and work intensity improve mental health outcomes such as loss of confidence, anxiety, social dysfunction, and risk of clinical depression. These effects are clinically relevant and substantial for younger and older female workers and larger for workers in occupations characterised by an inherently higher level of job strain. We detail how different dimensions of job quality impact different mental health outcomes for different age groups. Our results have important implications for public policies and firms which aim to improve workers' wellbeing and productivity through workplace interventions focused on mental health." Increased childbearing following the introduction of a modest paid family leave policy in the U.S. could explain the contrasting short-term gains and long-term losses in women's labor market outcomes found in recent work. We exploit the nation's first paid family leave program, implemented in California in 2004. Using the universe of U.S. births and a difference-in-differences strategy, we find that access to leave increases fertility by 2.8 percent, driven by higher order births to mothers in their 30s, as well as Hispanic mothers and those with a high school degree. Our results are robust to corrective methods of inference, including synthetic controls. Our findings may inform the discussion of a national paid family leave policy." However, sufficient and valid conclusions are not yet available to identify the reasons for the gender pay gap (GPG). Building on key theoretical models to explain the wage gap, our research, based on a short survey, aimed to identify which factors could be related to the perception of GPG among employees of small- and medium-sized enterprises in five European countries. Moreover, we investigated the possible relationships between personal characteristics such as gender, age, job satisfaction, gender orientation (which is categorized as ''Negative Gender Orientation'', i.e., sexist beliefs, and ''Positive Gender Orientation'', i.e., perceived gender equality in society), and the GPG and tried to estimate a possible functional relationship between the perceived GPG and the decision-making style. The results revealed differences between personal characteristics and perceptions of the GPG; the findings were discussed in accordance with the present literature on the topic." However, the crisis' effects and responses to it vary substantially across countries. Using administrative registers of the Social Insurance Institution of Finland, we evaluate the impact of the COVID-19 crisis on various socio-economic groups by examining the receipt of social benefits and length of benefit spells. Furthermore, we analyse the duration of unemployment and social assistance spells that started during the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic and the probabilities of receiving social assistance among different socio-economic groups during the crisis. The results of our analysis show that in 2020, the receipt of unemployment and social assistance benefits was highest among young people and particularly among women. However, extending the analysis to 2021 we found that unemployment spells were shorter among young people than among older age groups. Thus, while the youngest age groups were hardest hit by the crisis in terms of the increase in the number of recipients, they seem to have recovered from it faster than the older age groups. Our findings indicate that the Finnish social security system succeeded fairly well in mitigating the negative impacts of the crisis for vulnerable groups and those who faced job loss since small adjustments to the benefits maintained the income of these groups." Um insbesondere geographischen Engführungen zu begegnen, werden in der vorliegenden Replikationsstudie Daten des nationalen Bildungspanels verwendet (N = 310). In der vorliegenden Replikationsstudie werden ähnliche Konstrukte verwendet. Im Ergebnis zeigen sich signifikante Effekte in Bezug auf Alter, Geschlecht, Migrationshintergrund und Kulturnähe, letzteres abweichend von den Befunden von Pilz/Ebner/Edeling (2020). We find that while young workers are more likely to experience earnings gains with on-the-job sectoral and occupational switches, low-skilled workers' employment transitions are associated with an earnings loss. These differences in earnings gains and losses also mask a high degree of heterogeneity related to trends in routinization. But, we find evidence for similar declines amongst those with college educations. The decline is also sufficiently large to more than offset reductions in the racial and gender wage gaps. 3) Quantile regression estimates suggest that on average only women and non-Whites in the lowest quantiles have seen growth in real incomes, the majority have experienced real declines. 4) Exploiting state and industry variation in workforce composition we obtain race and gender-specific labor share estimates. These data suggest that intergenerational declines in the labor share can account for much of the decline in earnings. 5) We find some evidence that intergenerational reductions in the labor share are due to increased import competition, but no correlation with unionization."
