%X "Using 2009 to 2015 American Community Survey (ACS) data, this article estimates the effect of the prevalence of long hours and short hours of work in a husband's field of work, as defined by his undergraduate degree field, on the labor market outcomes of skilled married women. When individuals work in fields that require longer hours of work, their spouses experience spillover effects. The labor market outcomes of female spouses are more negatively affected than are those of male spouses. Specifically, female spouses face lower total earnings, hourly wages, employment options, and hours of work for married women with children relative to married men with children or married women without children. Little evidence supports the idea that the rate of short hours of work in a spouse's degree field differentially affects married women with children." (Author's abstract, IAB-Doku) ((en))

%X "This paper explores work-to-family conflict among 77 managerial fathers in Sweden by focusing on flexible working arrangements. Sweden provides a unique setting for the study of fathers? work-to-family conflict as it has a 30-year-old social policy tradition of promoting gender equality in the workplace and in the home. Our results show that managerial fathers experience high levels of work-to-family conflict, despite high access to flexible working arrangements. Using a border theory perspective, hierarchical regression analysis shows the importance of gender egalitarianism in the family (taking responsibility for children and being in a dual earner family), as well as flexible working arrangements (satisfaction with job flexibility and access to flexleave) in explaining work-to-family conflict for managerial fathers. Organizational time demands (time pressure at work and average work hours) and use of flextime were less important. Our results imply that gender egalitarian managerial fathers with access to flexleave have a win?win situation. They experience less work-to-family conflict and set a good example for their employees."

(Autorenreferat, IAB-Doku)
%X "Employment increased up to 2007-2008, then decreased sharply due to the financial crisis, and then increased again. The Danish economy was severely affected by the Great Recession, and the associated employment loss was large. Overall, the Danish 'flexicurity' model was able to cope with the crisis. Although many have been affected by unemployment, unemployment spells have been short due to high job turnoverrates. This has prevented a sharp increase in long-term unemployment and eased labor market entry for young people. Recent increases in employmenthave not induced large wage increases. Wage inequality is rising, but less than in other countries, and wage dispersion remains relatively low." (Author's abstract, IAB-Doku) ((en))

%X "Alternative work arrangements, defined both by working conditions and by workers' relationship to their employers, are heterogeneous and common in the U.S. This article reviews the literature on workers' preferences over these arrangements, inputs to firms' decision to offer them, and the impact of regulation. It also highlights several descriptive facts. Work arrangements have been relatively stable over the past 20 years, work conditions vary substantially with education, and jobs with schedule or location flexibility are less family-friendly on average. This last fact helps explain why women are not more likely to have schedule or location flexibility and seem to largely reduce hours to get more family-friendly arrangements."
